RADICAL CHANGES MAY BE COMING TO CALIFORNIA PRISONS, BUT PROBABLY NOT.

In the wake of the overwhelming passage of Proposition 36 by the voters of the formerly great state of California the micro-minority of Republicans in the CA legislature seem to think that it is barely possible they will have some power to pass reasonable and logical legislation.  Don't be on it.

For the last five years CA womans prisons have housed biological male prisoners who asserted that they identified as female.  The law that made this idiocy possible was the Transgender Respect, Agency and Dignity Act.

SB 311, proposed by State Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) would "seclude" transgender female prisoners from biological female prisoners.  There are currently 35 such prisoners in the CA system.

The proposal has been called "a deeply unserious, harmful and cynical distraction from the real work of ending sexual violence in prisons" by the author of the bill that permits this practice in the first place, State Senator Scott Weiner (D-S.F.).
