THAT WAS PROBABLY A DUMB THING TO SAY

By Bob Walsh

Mark Twain once said something along the lines of that you shouldn't pick fights with somebody who buys ink by the barrel.  Had he thought of it he might have also said something about not picking fights with people who have more money than god, especially if you are both wrong and stupid.

Two days ago, on live television, former congressman Jamal Bowman announced that Elon Musk was both a thief and a Nazi.

Today Musk announced that he is suing Bowman's ass off for defamation.  Unless he can PROVE that Musk is both a thief and a Nazi he may be in trouble.  As a public figure it is, as a mater of law, DIFFICULT for Musk to sue successfully for defamation.  As I recall you have to prove that the statement was false and defamatory, that the person making the statement KNEW it was false and went ahead and did it anyway.  It is a high bar to clear, but not impossible.  It has been done a time or two.

I would not want to be Jamal Bowman right now.

If you have enough $ to throw at something and your opponent does not, big money usually wins. It would probably be cost prohibited to try and defend himself against Musk. Settle quickly with a retraction/apology.
