THE JURY DIDN'T BUY SELF-DEFENSE CLAIM

Nicholas Carrasquillo mug shot (L) and during trial

Nicholas Carrasquillo, 27, was just found guilty of second-degree murder in Florida for a road-range shooting in which he shot a young father on his way to work in the back of the head.  Carrasquillo claimed self-defense.

Carrasquillo asserted when he testified in his own behalf that he was on his way to his grandmother's house fourteen months ago when David Alexzander Sligh, 30, cut him off in traffic.  This lead to an exchange of unpleasantries at a traffic light.  Carrasquillo further asserted that he felt trapped when Sligh blocked him in at a green light.  He further asserts that he fired one warning shot into the ground, and then fired five shots into Sligh's vehicle.  There is no evidence that Sligh was armed in any fashion, nor did Carrasquillo assert that he saw a weapon.  He did however continue to maintain that he felt threatened, stating "I'm the one who saved my life."

The jury didn't buy it.

Carrasquillo has yet to be sentenced.
