Donald Trump slammed actor George Clooney as a 'second rate movie star' as he hit out at the Hollywood legend for comments he made on 60 Minutes.
The 63-year-old actor appeared on the news program Sunday night to promote his Broadway debut as renowned journalist Edward R Murrow in Good Night and Good Luck when he took aim at the Trump administration.
Clooney spoke about his decision to drop his support for Joe Biden - accusing the Democratic Party of 'cowardice' and covering up the ex-president's ailing health while claiming he was forced to 'tell the truth' in a bombshell op-ed calling for him to step down.
The president quickly responded on Truth Social to blast Clooney and the role he played in Biden's demise.
'Why would the now highly-discredited 60 Minutes be doing a total "puff piece" on George Clooney, a second-rate movie "star" and failed political pundit,' he wrote.
'He fought hard for Sleepy Joe's election, and then, right after the Debate, dumped him like a dog. Later, I assume under orders from the Obama camp, pushed all out for "Kamala," only to soon realize that this was not going to work out too well.
'60 Minutes even fraudulently inserted fake answers into her disastrous interview, and just before Election Day, in one of the most embarrassing and dishonest events in broadcast history,' Trump said, reiterating claims he made in his $10 billion lawsuit against the network.
'And now George Clooney again? His press agent should be making a fortune!!!'

The actor was asked point-blank about his decision to publish a damning op-ed in the New York Times over the summer entitled 'I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee' - and whether he would still write the essay if he had known Trump would win against Harris.
'Yeah, I'll make it kinda easy,' said Clooney, a lifelong Democrat and the son of a journalist.
'I was raised to tell the truth.'
He explained that he saw Biden at a Hollywood fundraiser in June 2024 'and I was surprised'.
'I feel as if there was a lot of profiles and cowardice in my party through all of that, and I was not proud of that and also I believed I had to tell the truth,' Clooney said.
He reaffirmed that 'I've always liked Joe Biden and I like him still,' but said that his obvious incapacities made it impossible to defend his record.
Clooney, though, also had some pointed words for the Trump administration as he shared what he believed were parallels between McCarthyism in the 1950s and today.

'We're seeing this idea of using government to scare or fine or use corporations to make journalists smaller,' Clooney said.
'Governments don't like the freedom of the press. They never have,' he explained.
'And that goes for whether you are a conservative or a liberal or whatever side you're on. They don't like the press.'
Clooney pointed specifically to ABC News' decision to contribute $15 million to then President-elect Trump's presidential foundation and museum in order to settle a defamation suit over claims made by George Stephanopoulos that Trump was found civilly liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll.
The actor also mentioned Trump's lawsuit against CBS News, in which he claims that the network purposely edited Harris' interview in October in a way that put him at a disadvantage in the presidential election.
The Federal Communications Commission was forced to release the unedited version of the interview amid the claims - and found that CBS News aired just 20 minutes of their hour-long interview.
The lawsuit is now ongoing. Meanwhile, Trump-appointed FCC Chair Brendan Carr must determine whether to push forward a proposed merger between the network's parent company, Paramount, and Skydance.
When Clooney was asked how the historic television showdown between Edward R Murrow and Sen. Joseph McCarthy relates to today, he replied that the fight between the government and the press is a 'fight for the ages.'
'You see it happening at the LA Times, you see it happening at the Washington Post,' he said.
At the LA Times, staffers are openly protesting the paper's increasingly right-leaning owner on Slack.
Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has also sparked outrage from his staff after announcing plans to overhaul the paper's Opinion page to focus solely on support for 'personal liberties and free markets.'
Longtime Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus also stepped down, complaining about journalistic freedoms being 'dangerously eroded' under Bezos and new boss Will Lewis.
'I love the Post. It breaks my heart to conclude that I must leave' she said.
Now, Clooney says journalists must hold strong.
'When the other three estates fail, when the judiciary and the executive and the legislative branches fail us, the fourth estate has to succeed,' Clooney said.
His remarks come just days after he appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when the Oscar-winner shared his feelings about the Democrats losing the 2024 election.
'Well I don't know, what am I supposed to do? Storm the f***ing Capitol?' he said referencing the January 6 2021 insurrection, prompting applause from the crowd.
Clooney also had an unexpected direct message to Trump, without saying his name: 'Good for you. I hope you do well because our country needs it, and we will meet you in 3.5 years and see where we go next.'
