THIS MAKES EVEN LESS SENSE THAN MOST CASES OF STUPID, POINTLESS GUN VIOLENCE

OK this went down as week ago today in Sumter, SC.  Reuben Arthur Leonard is 80 years old.  I guess he is a crotchety old fart.  He was apparently pissed at frequent instances of target practice at the neighbors property, which is completely legal there.  He complained to the cops a lot about it, even though he was told that they were not breaking the law.  He was in fact cited for "breach of the peace" for his repeated complaints. 

So on Sunday he forces his way into the neighbors house while armed.  He shot and killed an 11-year old girl before being disarmed by others at the scene.  It seems that he also shot his wife to death in their garage immediately before this incident.

The local constabulary assert that there is no indication of dementia or any sort of mental disease in Leonard, which is currently a guest of the people at the Sumpter-Lee Regional Detention Center.  He is being held without bail on two counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder.  His next hearing is set for June 6.
