TOO BAD THAT SOMEONE WAS NOT A BETTER SHOOTER

And I always thought those tobacco-chewing good old boys from East Texas could hit a fly at 100 yards.

BILLY GENE CHILDRESS: AFTER DAUGHTER ALLEGEDLY BRING HIM TEEN TO RAPE, HE GETS SHOT, THEN ARRESTED FOR CHILD PORN

An extremely bizarre sex crime case even by the lofty standards of rural Deep East Texas has been unfolding over the summer in San Augustine County.

Back in May, Billy Gene Childress, 55, and his 22-year-old daughter Margaret Ann Childress were arrested and charged with sexual assault of a minor.

Police there say that beginning in early 2010, Margaret Childress would go to an area school on Friday afternoons and pick up a 16-year-old girl. Margaret Childress would then bring the girl to the home she shared with Billy Gene Childress, and then, police and the girl both say, daddy would have sex with the girl all weekend.

Then Margaret Childress would return the teen to school on Monday morning. (At least the Childresses seem to stress the value of a good education...) The girl's parents told authorities that they believed she'd been sleeping over at a friend's house on those weekends.

A few weeks after this sordid tale hit area news, someone shot Childress in the shoulder while he was standing in his driveway. Childress has since recovered, and police now say they have no leads in that case, that the driveway shooting is at a "dead end."

We are sure they're pulling out all the stops in that investigation.

But talk about balls: After he got plugged in likely retaliation for (allegedly) diddling some rural East Texan's underage daughter, Childress had the nerve to submit a claim to the Attorney General's crime victims compensation fund. (The claim was denied, according to San Augustine County Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham.)

Childress was arrested again on Monday. This time he was charged with possession of child porn -- he allegedly had some illegal images on his cellphone when he was arrested. Police there say they had been planning to file those charges since at least June, but wanted to give Childress time to heal from getting shot.
