A Houston mom left her 5-year-old daughter behind at a Pearland Chuck E. Cheese's late Thursday after a birthday party ended, a Brazoria County sheriff's official said.

An employee of the Chuck E. Cheese's at 3141 Silver Lake Village Drive in unincorporated Pearland called deputies about 10:50 p.m. after noticing the girl had been left behind, said Jeff Mink, an investigator at the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived and could not locate the mother, and the child was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

On Friday morning, the 32-year-old mother of 10 "realized she was missing her girl" and called 911.

Mink said that 19 children and three adults attended the party, including another mother with six children and a third mother with her three children.

The mother who left without her daughter was remorseful about the incident, Mink said.

"She was very upset and couldn't understand how she left her 5-year-old behind," he said.

No charges have been filed in the case, which is under investigation.
