The Obama camp and leading Democrats have been jumping all over Roach Limburger for his intemperate rant against Sandra Fluke, not only excoriating him for calling her a slut, but also accusing him of lying when he said, “She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay” for her contraceptives.
Did ole Roach get it wrong? Well, yes and no. The contraception coverage will not be paid for with taxes. It will be paid for by individual health insurance policy holders. But did Roach lie when he said that Fluke wants you and me to pay for her contraception coverage? Not if you and I have health insurance policies.
Those health insurance rates are based on past and projected insurance payouts. Because contraceptives are being used by millions of women, they add up to a big insurance payout. Thus the cost of those payouts is factored into the insurance premiums that we have to pay. And that is why you and I, men and women alike, are paying for Fluke’s protected sex, and that of all other women who want to keep from getting pregnant, if our policies provide for free contraceptives.
So, did ole Roach lie? Not really, but what it boils down to is that it’s all in the eye of the beholder.
