L.A. COUNTY MAKES IMPORTANT DISCOVERY: MANY EX-OFFENDERS LIKELY TO DO IT AGAIN

The Los Angeles County Probation Department has made a truly interesting discovery, apparently many ex-offenders are likely to commit new crimes. I guess they figured that almost all of the AB109 [realignment] clients they would get were people who had committed one relatively minor crime in their whole life, been caught, and are truly repentant and will never do it again. That’s what happens when you believe a superannuated politician [Gov. Moonbeam], a political hack lawyer [former Prisons Secretary Matthew Cate], and a pack of academics and base your game plan on their say-so.

It seems that a county advisory group has just determined that a majority of AB109 clients are actual honest-to-god criminals who are at a high risk of reoffending. Damn, who would have guessed that?

In the first year of realignment LA County has been sent 11,136 AB 109 clients. Of those who actually reported to the probation department for assessment it was found that 59% were classified as high risk and only 1% as low risk. The probation department did not indicate how many never bothered to report to it, but you can pretty much figure it is a large number. All of those who didn’t report are almost certainly at a high risk of reoffending, because they are doing it by not reporting.

The report, issued by the Countywide Criminal Justice Coordination Committee, also says that a number of people previously classified as MDOs (Mentally Disordered Offenders) were decertified from that status by the state hospital system, which then dumps them into the county system as well. It is my understanding, based on anecdotal information, that this is becoming an increasingly common practice and that you now have to be barking mad to be considered an MDO.

Let’s face it, Jerry [Gov. Moonbeam] quacked you county people. The real pros in the system told you it was going to happen, and it did. Have fun guys. You bought it, now you own it. Deal with it!
