OK, so we’re having problems in Texas with children's health care, care for the mentally ill, illiterates, droughts, etc., but with the help of tips from ‘Crime Stoppers,’ our cops are catching crooks and we are still executing vicious murderers.

The state of Texas has all sorts of problems. There are problems with children's health care, a lack of support for the mentally ill, low literacy rates, droughts, famine, pestilence and the Dallas Cowboys. We've got a lot going on down here. But, in one area, at least, we are kicking ass and taking names: taking fugitives down to China Town and by China Town, I mean jail.
According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the state is rounding up drug dealers, gang bangers, pedophiles, murderers and rapist and a record pace. They have also paid a record amount in reward money to tipsters, and just in time for Christmas!
"So far this year, DPS and other agencies have arrested 30 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including 20 gang members, and $93,000 in rewards have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests," the release states.
DPS attributes its success to a revamped system that added sex offenders to their top 10 most wanted list in 2010 and a video they produced explaining the process and anonymity of tipsters, which is important because, if there is anything The Wire taught us, it's that snitches get stitches...if the crooks find out who they are.
Fortunately, the DPS program appears to be working and more violent offenders are ending up behind bars.
If you have information on a crime or a fugitive, you might be able to do your civic duty and collect a little cash by turning them in. Check their 10 Most Wanted list and see if you recognize anyone. Sending a murder to the big house might net you a new flat screen this Christmas.
