ALARMING ABUSE AS OPPOSED TO MUNDANE ABUSE

By Bob Walsh

Assuming the Associated Press got it right (a sometimes unwarranted assumption) there is a “culture of racism” and a “code of silence” about it at the “isolated” prison known as High Deseret State Prison (which is right next to the somewhat older prison, the California Conservation Center, so maybe it isn’t so isolated after all) just outside of Susanville. The article quotes a report from the Inspector General’s Office. (Wasn’t there a pretty good Danny Kaye movie by that name about a million years ago?)

The California Correctional Peace Officer’s Association (CCPOA), the union that represents rank-and-file peace officers within the system, has said they believe that the IG is operating a “burn a cop a week” program of heavy-handed intimidation. The Prison Law Office (PLO) thinks the IG is doing absolutely wonderful work. Senator Loni Hancock, a psychopathic liberal idiot from Berkeley, says the prison culture is in desperate need of reform.

The IG wants to make it harder for “guards” to access the public data base that identifies sex offenders so that they can’t pick on them. Gee, I don’t see any trouble with that.

Dr. Jeffrey Beard (and you had better remember to call him Doctor when you speak to him), who is on his way out the door [as head of the state corrections system], spouted the usual empty-suit staff-weenie mantra which nobody takes seriously.
