INTERESTING THOUGHTS ON FEAR OF TERRORISM AND REACTIONS TO IT

By Bob Walsh

I was listening today (12-11) to my favorite talk radio guy, Tom Sullivan, as I was driving home from my dad's house. Sullivan is primarily a financial guy but does a lot of general talk radio subjects as well and is on the Fox Network.

He cited the following two recent poll results.

The week after 9-11 the general public reported that 78% of them had a serious or substantial fear of a subsequent terrorist attack. Within the week just past that figure was 79%.

This past week the general public is now reporting that a majority is OPPOSED to further bans on "assault weapons." That is the first time that has been true since the term "assault weapons" game into general use.

I don't know if our little corner of the world is functionally a less safe place than it was 60 days ago but it would seem that John Q. Citizen certainly THINKS it is. These beliefs are very likely to effect the outcome of upcoming elections.

It is likely to be an interesting 11 months or so coming up.
