Fred Buenrostro, 66, was formerly the CEO of CalPers, the largest public pension fund on the planet. He is about to become a federal prisoner, doing what is officially a 4 ½ year stretch. If I recall in the federal system you do a pretty much flat 85% in actual custody.
He copped a plea to taking bribes from a former CalPERS board member and buddy, Alfred Villalobos. Alfred self-rehabilitated at a firing range in Nevada last year. Buenrostro sold out the state and it’s pensioners for a measly $250,000.
Buenrostro was escorted into court by U. S. Marshalls, in a jail jump suit. He was in custody on an unrelated battery charge of thumping a girlfriend.
Buenrostro has been trying to play nice since he copped his plea and has been volunteering at a social services operation in West Sacramento, when he hasn’t been in jail for thumping on girlfriends. Everybody has to have a hobby I guess.
