On Monday SCOTUS, by unanimous vote, vacated a stay of execution issued by the 11th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the matter of the execution of Vernon Madison, 67, by the State of Alabama.
Madison has had a stroke while in custody and now (allegedly) does not understand what is going on around him or why he is being killed by the state.
Madison ambushed and shot a cop in the back of his head while the officer was in his police car. The officer was responding to a domestic violence call involving Madison.
The court was clearly unconvinced, stating that Madison is fully aware that he is being scragged for a murder he committed, even if he does not remember actually committing the murder.
Madison has been on death row about half his life. With luck, that won't be much longer.
