It now looks like the Federal Emergency Management Agency may tell the California Dept. of Water Resources that they are SOL on the $870 million for the Oroville Dam debacle.
FEMA is now taking the view that the problem was caused largely by DWR doing inadequate oversight and shoddy maintenance on the structure and that therefore THEY should be on the hook for the cost and not the Feds.
It is not completely clear how much of this is a real thing and how much of it is Donald Trump getting tired of Jerry Brown and the formerly great state of California sticking a thumb in his eye on a regular basis. As a citizen and taxpayer in CA I admit to having mixed feelings about this, but I do believe that being an asshole should have consequences, even for a government. CA needs to have it's collective government ass whopped. Maybe that is about to happen, to the tune of $870 million. .
