Weird shit happens. I know that. I have even seem some weird shit from time to time. That being said the official explanation of the shooting yesterday at n LA school just does not make sense to me.
Allegedly a 12-year old girl brought a handgun, allegedly a semi-automatic pistol, to school in her back pack. Allegedly she didn't know it wad loaded. Allegedly when she dropped her back pack the gun discharged ONCE and hit four people.
Depending on how old the gun was, how well it was maintained, what the exact design was, etc. it is POSSIBLE that it fired ONCE in a back pack when dropped. The chances of it firing more than once under those circumstances is essentially zero. However, the chances of one bullet injuring four people, including a thru the skull injury to one 12-year old boy, is very low indeed.
None of these possibilities is zero.
So far witnesses report one shot fired, or at least the sound of one shot fired. One adult was injured by a thru-and-thru to the wrist. The other two people were injured by alleged ricochets, which may, I suppose, have actually been from fragments of something flying around rather than by the bullet itself. Somehow it just does not ring true to me. Maybe I am just nasty and suspicious by nature.
The girl is in custody on a charge of negligent discharge of a weapon.

They are now claiming only two injuries due to bullet impact. That, I admit, makes a LOT more sense. stink-o-meter is quieting down.
