It would seem that a pack of hostage takers who believed in being prepared used a number of surveillance drones to surveil the FBI during a hostage situation last winter.
IN Australia criminals have used drones to monitor shipping containers with contraband in them and called in false emergency situation in other parts of the port to draw enforcement people away if they showed too much interest in the area where their shipping containers were.
The FAA is considering regulations that would specifically prohibit mounting weapons on drones and would require that drones operated out of line-of-sight broadcast an identity marker which could be back-tracked to the owner. I am sure that will scare the crap out of criminal users.
