HOUSTON -- Multiple sources tell FOX 26 News that a suspect is in custody in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, along with a possible second suspect. Sources say the alleged shooter is black, not white, and also that the shooting may have been gang-related.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office released the following statement on Sunday morning:
Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide investigators have filed a capital murder charge against Eric Black Jr. (DOB: 10/10/1998) for the Dec. 30 shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes.
Investigators identified Black as a suspect based on a tip.
Subsequent investigation revealed evidence that corroborated the tip, and Black was taken into custody in East Harris County without incident.
Black then admitted to taking part in the shooting. Investigators are continuing to pursue evidence that could possibly lead to other suspects being charged in this case.
Jazmine's mother was driving Jazmine and her three sisters southbound on the East Sam Houston Parkway feeder road near Wallisville Road at approximately 6:50 a.m. when they were fired upon by someone in another vehicle.
At this time, investigators do not believe Jazmine's family was the intended target of the shooting, and that they were possibly shot as a result of mistaken identity.
"I am grateful to our dedicated investigators, the partner law enforcement agencies that provided vital assistance, and tipsters from across the nation who pulled together to support our work to get justice for Jazmine," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. "Our work is not finished, but I believe the people of Harris County can take comfort in knowing we have made great progress."
A composite sketch released by the Harris County Sheriff's Office on Thursday described the shooting suspect as a thin white man in his 30s or 40s. HCSO said that a man in a red pickup truck fired gunshots toward the car that Jazmine was in with her mother and three sisters. The shooting was reported on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, on the East Sam Houston Parkway frontage in northeast Harris County. Jazmine's mother, LaPorsha Washington, was driving with the children and was shot in the arm.

The TWO black suspects in the Walmart shooting death of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes after it was initially thought to be a race hate crime when witnesses described seeing a white man in his 40s fleeing the scene

Police now have two suspects in custody in connection with the murder of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes who was gunned down in a Texas Walmart parking lot a week ago.
Eric Black Jr, 20, was arrested and charged with capital murder after the little girl was shot dead in Houston on December 30. They said early Sunday that Black was arrested without incident after receiving a tip and later admitting to the shooting.
Another man, Larry Woodruffe, 24, was the second suspect to be taken into custody. The Barnes family's lawyer, Lee Merritt, said he is 'believed to be the shooter'.
Jazmine was in the family's car with her mother and three siblings when a red pickup truck pulled up next to them and someone started firing inside the vehicle.
Police initially described the suspect as a bearded white man in his 40s based on descriptions from various witnesses and victims. They released a police sketch showing a white man.
Jazmine's mother, LaPorsha Washington, said she believed the shooting was racially motivated. However, both men arrested in connection with the little girl's murder are black.
It is possible the white man previously described to police as a suspect was simply a bystander trying to escape the shooting.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The whole nation had been outraged after being led to believe this little black girl was the victim of a hate crime committed by a white man. The ‘Justice for Jazmine’ shouters must be sorely disappointed that the killer turned out to be black.

The people who get political power from this issue will probably feel bad about it for about 17 seconds, and then move on to the next one.
I'm sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were planning their flights.
I'm just as sure they aren't coming now.
KHOU 11 reports the shooter lived next door to the victim. Something stinks.
