4 narcotic officers were shot and another officer was injured during a shootout in Southeast Houston that also left 2 suspects dead
A narcotics raid Monday evening on a home in Southeast Houston ended in a shootout between Houston narcotic officers and one of the two suspects in the house.
The officers were serving a 'no knock' search warrant for black tar heroin. As soon as the officers burst through the front door of the home they were met by gunfire. When the smoke cleared, four officers had been shot, one officer injured his knee in a scramble and the two suspects in the house were dead.
According to the police, Dennis Tuttle, 59, had fired at the officers with a .357 caliber revolver. As one of the wounded officers fell on a living room couch, Tuttle’s wife of 20-years, Rhogena Nicholas, 58, tried to grab his shotgun. Both were killed from the return fire by the officers.
The case officer and another officer were shot in the neck and were hospitalized in critical condition. After surgery, they were listed in serious condition. One of the other two wounded officers was shot in the shoulder and released from the hospital Monday night.
According to Chief Art Acevedo, the 54-year-old case officer has been shot on the job twice before.
One might say this was a narcotics raid that went bad, but it didn’t go all bad because two dirtbags are now dead.
