Kanautica Zayre-Brown is a guest of the people of North Carolina. Ms. Brown wants to be housed in a women's prison.
Zayre-Brown became a guest of the state in 2017 under the habitual felon law with an instant offense of fraud. She has NOT completed the surgical transformation, meaning presumably she still has a penis.
She has been moved from a relatively large male prison (Harnett Correctional) to as relatively small one (Warren Correctional) and placed in a single cell. She previously was housed in a 38 bed dorm.
The state recognizes her as Kevin Chestnut, her birth name. She does not like that. She wants to be issued women's clothing and addressed as a woman. Too bad she didn't stay out of prison, she might have had better luck with that.
The ACLU is threatening legal action on her behalf.
