A HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN LAST NIGHT ... AND THE NIGHT BEFORE

by Bob Walsh

Stockton had two major fires take place in the space of 24 hours. The first one was at a recycling plant in the port area. Cardboard and plastic. Very smokey, very smelly. (Back in the day I and Kenny Morris caught an escapee there. He had hidden in a hollowed-out cardboard bale. Pretty sneaky actually.) It was a three or four alarm fire.

The next night brought a six alarm (general alarm) fire at a pallet plant and Masonite manufacturing facility that brought down some high voltage lines and put a fair chunk of Stockton into the dark, including a lot of downtown street lights and city hall. Fortunately there was only one injury total during both fires.

No information yet regarding causes.
