The historic cathedral in Paris was gutted by fire on Monday, completely burning out the wooden frame and collapsing the dome. The church was undergoing some renovation and repair and at this early stage (late morning Pacific time on Monday) the cause of the fire is unknown. It does, however, seem likely to be linked somehow to the ongoing repair work.
I have never seen it except in photos, but I found the 12th century structure to be both impressive and inspiring. Its loss will be a huge one to the church and the native French people. (The huge number of Muslim immigrants will, I suspect, not care.)
I wonder if it is insured?
