LOCAL PRISON HOSPITAL HIT BY LEGIONAIRES' DISEASE

by Bob Walsh

The California Health Care Facility, a mega-size prison hospital just outside Stockon, and the two Division of Juvenile Justice facilities located adjacent to it, have been hit with a bacterial infection in the water supply that has killed at least one prisoner.

The infection was originally believed to be isolated to one housing unit in the hospital which houses over 2,600 inmate patients. The bacteria has not been found in the city water supply, which also supplies the prisons.

The disease is essentially a very nasty form of pneumonia which hits the elderly and people with underlying health conditions the hardest.
