CA TEACHERS UNIONS GETTING READY TO FUCK OVER CHARTER SCHOOLS WITH THE HELP OF THE LEGISLATURE

by Bob Walsh

It is accepted as a truism in the education business that the problems with government (public) schools in the formerly great state of California are mostly caused by parents who don't want their kids to attend shit schools.

These parents, who would like their kids to learn how to read and write as well as learning the legally required material about the massive contributions of LBGTQ people to society, often divert their rugrats to charter schools. The big problem with charter schools, at least if you are part of the education establishment, is that most of them are non-union. This is of course a threat to the political power of the California Teachers Association and the members of the legislation who are paid off by the union with campaign contributions.

There are currently three bills progressing thru the legislature on this subject, AB1505, AB1506 and AB1507. All are sponsored by the CTA. They have already passed the Assembly Education Committee.

Charter schools are already required to follow the same Open Meeting and Conflict of Interest laws as are public schools, courtesy of Governor Gavin Newsom. Jerry Brown vetoed this requirement when he was in office.

These bills, in combination give local schools districts the SOLE power to authorize new charter schools, to create caps on the number that are allowed to operate and to restrict their physical location. There are currently about 1,300 charter schools in CA, mostly in the Bay Area, LA and San Diego.

An additional legislative proposal, SB756, calls for a five year moratorium on new charter schools. It has not been heard in committee yet.

Clearly the CTA and their bought dogs in the legislature don't give a rat's ass about public education in CA as long as they get their vig.
