SWINGING FOR THE FENCES

by Bob Walsh

On Monday morning Lori Laughlin and her designer husband, acting thru their lawyer, both pleaded NOT GUILTY to all charges in federal court in Boston. The talking heads are saying that she was so repulsed by the idea of having to do ANY time that she is willing to risk (at least theoretically) 40 years as a guest of the people for money laundering, mail fraud, tax fraud and other assorted perfidy.

It is said that the 16 or so that have copped a plea, including actress Felicity Huffman, are likely to do at least some minimal in-custody time. It should also be noted the amount of money involved in Ms. Huffman's shenanigans was only $15k. Ms. Laughlin and hubby invested $500k in getting their cluelesss daughters into college. Jurors might have a hard time relating to $500k.

My own opinion, for what that might be worth, is that Ms. Laughlin is taking a massive gamble here, and almost certainly making a huge mistake. She may change her mind and try to back-pedal, but she is looking more and more like Jesse Smollett to me, digging a deeper and deeper hole that might collapse at any moment, and bury her alive.

Of course if it works she will have hit her home run. Trouble is, this sort of crime leaves TONS of footprints. There is no real question as to her guilt. She is really banking on jury nullification, hoping that the jury will love her so much they will give her a freebie. I think maybe she is believing her own P. R. too much. Too bad she isn't a gay Muslim illegal alien. She might have an advocacy group behind her then. As it is, spoiled rich privileged white rich-bitch isn't that good a place to be right now if you are in front of a jury.
