Forsaken by Dems: Ruben Diaz Sr.’s dire warning after son’s stabbing

In June 2020, Bloods gang member Alexis Dubouchet allegedly tried to kill Samuel Diaz, then his supervisor at the New York City Housing Authority. According to police, Dubouchet used a folding knife to stab Diaz in the back of his neck and twice in the head, yelling, “You wanna fuck with my life?” 

Although Dubouchet was a career criminal with 20 prior arrests and was charged with attempted murder in the attack on Diaz, he was freed on bail.  

Now prosecutors say he murdered someone while awaiting trial in the Diaz case, allegedly shooting Anthony Rios, 38, in the head early on July 25. 

Samuel Diaz is the son of Democratic City Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. and the brother of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.  

Ruben Diaz is furious that Dubouchet was allowed to go free after the attack on his son, and that another person is now dead. He blames fellow Democrats for passing lenient bail “reform” and writes for The Post that more Hispanic and black residents will vote against the Democrats unless they’re kept safe. 

You should know that due to ongoing efforts by New York Democrats to support criminals instead of our community, the Republican Party is looking better and better to many Hispanic voters.

It horrifies me to know that New York Hispanic Democrats in the state Senate and Assembly have voted to release career criminals and drug addicts into our streets with no deterrents in place, putting our community in danger. 

Thanks to these Democrats, bail is a thing of the past, and criminals as well as criminals-to-be know how attractive lawlessness is. 

Each night, as we watch any news station, we get to see video clips of fellow New Yorkers getting beaten, robbed, molested and pushed in front of subways. On the chance that any of these perpetrators are arrested, the revolving doors at the courthouses let them out right away to continue to wreak havoc. 

We might want to point the finger at judges and district attorneys, but the real culprits are our Democratic elected officials who voted to support what they call “bail reform.” Unlike Republicans, they remain determined to protect criminals — not us. 

It is responsible for our government to arrest, prosecute and incarcerate prisoners when they deserve it. It is not responsible to let them free without consequences to continue the lawlessness we have witnessed over the past few months. 

Government’s first responsibility is to protect its people. Our government is not protecting us. Our Democratic elected officials have apparently turned their backs on our families and business owners. 

Don’t forget that before New York’s Democrats voted to defund the police, they remained unabashedly silent as a “disrespect the police” movement grew. 

The brave men and women in the NYPD have been further threatened with violence by fearless criminals who have nothing to worry about from the court system. The law, as recently amended by New York’s Democrats, is on their side: The police are no longer able to get the guns off the street, and they are no longer able to take the gunmen off the street. 

My family, my city

I write this in anger because my son was almost killed by a career criminal who was out on bail after more than 20 arrests, and then finally killed someone else’s son.

I also write this as a proud Hispanic who cares deeply about my community. I care about our senior citizens, taxi drivers, bodega owners and our families who may just want to step out of their front door without fear of getting shot or attacked. Parents want to send their children to school, or to the park, or to cross the street without fear of the happenstance of catching a bullet which missed its target and was intended for some criminal. 

Those who successfully changed the bail laws may try to pair it with all of their pie-in-the-sky wishes that society will be less dependent on police and would profit more from social programs. While we wait for those programs to be put in place, the child on a bus going to school, the food delivery guy on a bike, and the old lady walking to church will remain vulnerable targets for criminals. Those criminals know they don’t even have to flee the scene. They can just walk away and go loot someone’s store. 

As a Pentecostal minister who believes in redemption, and as someone who has been given a second chance, I don’t believe it is responsible at all to enable this unchecked criminal activity. If the Democrats don’t immediately correct the situation, our Hispanic voters will know to turn to the Republicans for help.
