California Correctional Center and High Desert Prison in Susanville
The formerly great state of California has done such a
good job of combatting crime that there are virtually zero criminals
left in the state. Proof of that is the fact that the God-Emperor,
Gavin Newsom is proposing to close three more prisons on the state.
The
state (which now has a $90 billion budget surplus) has already closed
one prison, Deuel Vocational Institution near Tracy. They are
attempting to close another one, the old prison at Susanville, though
that closure is held up in the courts. That is where many of the state
inmate firefighters are trained.
It
is believed that the prison system will take up about $18.8 billion of
next year's budget, up from about $17 billion in the current year.
Newsom wished to close three more prisons in addition to Susanville.
San Quentin
The newly targeted prisons have not been named, though the state has
often expressed interest in dumping San Quentin, the home of the state's
Death Row. The prison has a very high cost per inmate operating cost
due in large part to it's ancient physical plant. In addition the
real estate on which it sits is fabulously valuable.
