WOKE AMERICA WHERE CRIMINALS ROAM FREE

Lawless America's latest insanity: Lululemon firing two brave women for standing up to thieves. MEGHAN MCCAIN despairs for a nation where criminals roam free - and the law-abiding pay the price

In America in 2023, crime pays, and courage earns you a pink slip.

The latest proof of a nation's descent into madness comes out of Atlanta, where two employees of a Lululemon were fired for the offense of having a backbone.

Assistant manager Jennifer Ferguson and her colleague Rachel Rogers lost their jobs last month after chasing three masked thieves, who barged into the shop and ran off with armloads of high-end apparel.

Ferguson captured it all on video. You can hear her screaming, 'No, no, no, you can't march back out.' But it was pointless.

There wasn't a security guard or police officer to be seen. The women were helpless.

'Chill, bitch. Shut your ass up,' the thieves yelled back at her.

Apparently, this happens all the time. The store has been burglarized nearly a dozen times. Can you blame the women for hitting their limit?

And to add insult to injury, Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald not only defended the company's decision to terminate the women's jobs, but he publicly chastised them for their actions.

'We have a zero-tolerance policy that we train our educators on around engaging during a theft,' McDonald told CNBC last week.

'Educators' is what Lululemon calls its workers. It sounds better than 'victims.'

'We put the safety of our team and of our guests front and center,' said McDonald, 'It's only merchandise…'

'Only merchandise'? What an utterly vapid thing to say.

If it is 'only merchandise' then McDonald and Lululemon would just give it away instead of charging almost $100 dollars for one pair of leggings.

It's all a bunch of gibberish, nothing more than cynical virtue-signaling, and sadly, it's the cost of doing business in woke America.

As CEO, McDonald made a whopping $15.7 million last year, up 18% from 2021. Most of that compensation came from bonuses as the adult active apparel industry has boomed.

Good for you, Calvin. But what about your employees?

Where do they rate in a woke world which caters to rich elites stretching on $100 yoga mats and criminals wearing $3 ski masks?

The depressing truth is that brave, hard-working men and women don't fit in a country that is circling the drain.

Decent people are expected to bite their lips and look the other way in the face of wrongdoing.

Could it be that Ferguson and Rogers made too much of a fuss and ran the risk of attracting the woke mob?

After all, they've been instructed to sit back and take it.

'They're trained to step back, let the theft occur, know that there's technology and cameras and we're working with law enforcement,' McDonald explained to the business show hosts.

Sure, that's easy for him to say, as he collects his millions, but try managing that store.

Atlanta is one of the most anti-police cities in the country.

In March, 35 people were arrested for a violent attack on the site of a new police training center. Construction equipment was set on fire and officers were pelted with rocks and Molotov cocktails.

When the Atlanta City Council held a hearing this week to approve funding for the project, hundreds of opponents showed up to speak out against it. According to many of them, police are the oppressors, but that's who Ferguson and Rogers called when they needed help.

No, Lulelemon's policy is not enlightened. It's cruel.

Where is the security for these women?

It must be jarring work in an environment where at any moment a gang of robbers can bust through the doors and help themselves.

It must be demoralizing to wake up in the morning and drive to work knowing that you're expected to sulk away into the storeroom if the burglars visit.

And at what point, does the theft of this supposedly worthless merchandise become so great that McDonald decides to close the store down and lay off all of its employees?

Shoplifting cost the retail industry a whopping $100 billion last year, up from nearly $95 billion in 2021.

Walmart has shut more than a dozen stores across at least nine states. Theft is so bad in New York City that bottles of water are locked behind plexiglass.

There is a new 'anti-theft' Walgreens in Chicago with only two rows of 'touchable' merchandise. Everything else must be ordered via kiosk and picked up at the counter.

Thankfully, my CVS in Virginia is not Fort Knox just yet, but if it turns into an 'anti-theft' experience, I will simply shop online. And you don't need a business degree to know that when the customers stop shopping, the store goes under.

America is now a place where criminals roam free and the law-abiding pay the price, as CEOs, like McDonald, join the woke ranks.

I can't help but think of the great Margaret Thatcher, who once said that, 'the problem with socialism is at a certain point you run out of other people's money.' In the case of Lululemon, at a certain point they'll get tired of giving their products away for free.

It may not happen today, it may not happen tomorrow, but at some point, McDonald's big fat paycheck will be threatened, and shoplifting will be quickly curtailed.

But you have to wonder how many American lives will be made considerably darker and how many of their jobs will be eliminated in the meantime.
