Bernardo Gonzalez Perez was cleaning up near his job in West Harlem when Carlos Ramirez, 48, attacked him.
On June 7 a new employee at the
Food Universe in Harlem was sweeping the sidewalk in front of the store
when he was set upon by a local homeless person.
Bernard
Gonzalez Perez, 63, was doing his job and minding his business with he
was attacked by Carlos Ramirez, 48, who beat him over the head several
times with a large piece of lumber. Gonzalez Perez died from his head
injuries.
Ramirez fled the
scene but was arrested later that day for felony assault. He is being
held pending a $1 million bond. The charges are expected to be upgraded
to murder on July 27 when Ramirez is next due to be in court.
