A Palestinian terrorist killed an Israeli soldier while trying to enter the settlement of Kedumim on Thursday.

The victim is 22-year-old Givati Brigade soldier Shiloh Yosef Amir from Kibbutz Meirav.

Magen David Adom paramedics treated the badly injured soldier at the scene of the crime, about 10 kilometers west of Nablus (Shechem) in Samaria, but sadly had to pronounce him dead.

The shooting attack occurred between Git Junction and Mitzpe Yishai. The latter is an “outpost” of Kedumim south of the main town. The terrorist, who used a “Carlo” type submachine gun, was shot dead by Israeli security forces near Git after a chase.

In a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, Hamas’ Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades confirmed that the assassin was their operative – Ahmed Yassin Ghaidan from the village of Qibya, near Ramallah.

The statement also warned Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: “The al-Qassam Brigades almost knocked on your door.” Smotrich lives in Kedumim with his wife and seven children.

Israeli authorities believe the terrorist acted alone, and the IDF Homefront Command has lifted its stay-at-home orders for residents.

“Following the report of the shooting attack near Kedumim, security forces identified a suspicious vehicle during an inspection,” said an IDF spokesman. “During the inspection, a terrorist in the vehicle opened fire on them. The forces returned fire, but the terrorist was able to escape.”

“IDF soldiers and civilian security personnel pursued, attacked and neutralized the terrorist,” the spokesman added.

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Thursday called on countries around the world to condemn rampant Palestinian terrorism.

Shiloh Yosef Amir was buried at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem on Friday morning.
