ASSORTED STUFF FROM THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE

By Bob Walsh

SB 94 is likely to become law soon in the People's Republic of California.  Assuming that happens anybody sentence to LWOP (life without possibility of parole) prior to June 5, 1990, will be able to petition the court for re-sentencing and may get reduced to Life, which means they will likely be paroled.

Also, SB 14 has one last hurdle to pass.  This is the Child Sex Trafficking law, which the legislature originally was going to let die before the public outcry.  Assuming this last amendment is approved Child Sex Trafficking will be "strikeable" under California law as it would be considered a "serious felony" which it would not otherwise.  It is unclear how likely it is for this amendment to stick.
