Voters are stupid. At least in the formerly great state of California they often are. It seems that a LOT of them vote on ballot proposition based on the name and the summary of the proposition without bothering to actually read it.
What many do not realize is that the Attorney General and the Secretary of State determine what these say. Once in a while a lawsuit is successful over really serious in-your-face tweaking of the title or description, but this isn't common. There have been attempts to move the authority to write the title and summary to the non-partisan Legislative Analysis Office. These attempts have gotten little traction, and they would cause the Democrat-Socialist party to lose power. Currently they hold all state constitutional offices and super-majorities in both houses of the legislature.
The reason the current hoorah is in action is a ballot proposition which will either a) defend transgender students' or b) endanger transgender students, depending on who you ask. The proposition has been circulated by a parents group who have the bizarre idea that parents should know if their children start asserting that they are of the "wrong" gender and that their children should not receive serious medical treatment including dangerous drugs without their knowledge and consent. A different group wants to "protect" these "transgender" students by keeping the parents out of their business.
It will be interesting to see what shakes out. I will try to keep you posted, as long as my stash of Green Death holds out.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Voters are stupid? They sure are. The elected both Trump and Biden-Kamala.
