The Sergeant at Arms of the
legislature is arguably the oldest law enforcement office in
California. It is certainly one of the oldest. The office was
established in 1849. The current holder of the office is Alisa Buckley,
the first female so honored. That is important in CA. Being the first
of something, especially if you are anything other than a White male.
Yesterday
Ms. Buckley was sent home and placed on paid leave (suspended from
duty). Nobody is saying why. I am confident it will leak out in a few
days. I suspect it will turn out to be something tacky and stupid.
