HUGO CHAVEZ ENDORSES OBAMA

It sure looks like the Venezuelan president knows Barack Obama better than the majority of American voters.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has weighed in on the U.S. presidential race, saying he prefers President Barack Obama.

'If I were American, I'd vote for Obama,' Chavez said in a televised interview that aired Sunday.

The Venezuelan leader called Obama 'a good guy’ and said if the U.S. president were a Venezuelan, ‘I think... he'd vote for Chavez.’

Chavez is running for re-election, seeking another six years in office in an October 7 vote. Obama faces Republican Mitt Romney in his November re-election bid.

The comparison is likely one that President Obama is not thrilled about, as Chavez is a proud socialist and Republicans have been labelling Obama as such since he took control of the White House in 2008.

This is also not Chavez's first foray into the American presidential race, as he criticized Romney in July, comparing the former Massachusetts governor to his own Venezuelan opponent, Henrique Capriles.

Chavez asserted that both Romney and Capriles are selfish wealthy men who do not care about their respective countries' poor populations.

'I believe the person to best explain the loser’s agenda isn’t Barack Obama but rather Romney, because it’s the extreme right-wing agenda that borders on the fascism of the United States,' Chavez said in a campaign speech.

Venezuela has had tense relations with the U.S. government for years, even though the United States remains the top buyer of oil from the country.
