First the empty chair, now the empty podium — at least that’s how The New Yorker magazine sees the first presidential debate.
For its cover due out on Monday, the venerable magazine has chosen a caricature of Mitt Romney debating a podium without anyone behind it, as it satirizes President Barack Obama’s poor performance on Wednesday night in Denver.
The picture is titled “One on One,” even though the Republican challenger is alone on stage.
“This image seemed like a proper response to the first Presidential debate,” said artist Barry Blitt. “But I’m not sure I realized how hard it is to caricature furniture.”
During the Republican National Convention, acting legend Clint Eastwood spoke to a chair with an imaginary Obama seated on it.
