A judge from Santa Clara County has just issued an order that will result in the conditional release of a man who has confessed to at least 25 rapes across the state.

Christopher Evans Hubbart has been a guest of the state in various mental hospitals. He was released from prison once in 1972, moved to the Bay Area and raped at least 15 more women within about two years. He was again imprisoned, and released again on parole in 1990. Shortly after that release he attempted yet another rape, in Santa Clara County. He was convicted of false imprisonment and returned to prison.

A judge has found Hubbart a likely candidate for release based on reports from various shrinks at Coalinga. His release will, at least in theory, be closely supervised, including electronic monitoring and a curfew as well as ongoing mental health treatment.

A private placement service, Liberty Healthcare, is now searching for a safe place to house this serious sex offender. Anybody out there want to volunteer their spare room?
