EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THEY DO GET A DECENT IDEA

by Bob Walsh

The idiots that run the formerly great state of California do, once in a while, get a good idea. (Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again.) This may be one of them.

The state legislature is really pissed, and rightfully so, over the profusion of locally spoofed robo calls bombarding the state. I know, I get 3 or 4 every day.

SB 208, if signed into law, would require that telephone companies doing business in the state implement actions to stop this practice by not later than July 1, 2020.

Of course since most phone lines are covered by interstate commerce I am unsure what power the state actually has to do this, but it is not only a nice idea but a good idea. I hope they can manage something. These calls trying to sell me back braces or dental insurance are really getting to be a pain in the butt. They clog up my answering machine something fierce.

We haven't had a land line in 15 years. Our cell phones clearly identify who is calling and if the caller isn't one of our listed contacts then it goes straight to voice mail. We have found solicitors rarely leave a voice mail.
