SLEAZE MOVE WITH A DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT

by Bob Walsh

In August of this year Harry Dunn, 19, was killed while driving on his motorbike near RAF Croughton in Northhamptonshire in the U.K. It is believed the driver of the hit-and-run car was the wife of a U. S. diplomatic who was driving on the wrong side of the road. The woman was apparently "advised" by the embassy to leave the U. K., and did in fact do so.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has called on the U. S. Ambassador in London to ask them to reconsider and return the woman to the U. K. for possible trial. The United State has declined to waive diplomatic immunity, as expected.

I don't know how things work in the U. K. but in the U. S. one of the things that a foreign government has to do to have a recognized embassy here is they have to prove they have motor vehicle insurance from a U. S. carrier. I would not be surprised if the same is true in the U. K. If true, that would at least give the family involved some financial compensation, providing they can make a case. I strongly suspect the car carried diplomatic plates and is parked at the U. S. embassy. That could complicate a traffic investigation.

The U. S. could of course waive privilege for civil and not for criminal purposes, but I don't see that happening either.

Sometimes things just suck and there isn't much you can do about it.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The bitch had promised British authorities she would not leave the U.K.
