ARREST MADE IN NORTH SEA SHIP COLLISION

By Bob Walsh

A couple of days ago a Portuguese flagged cargo ship ran into an anchored U.S. flagged oil tanker in the North Sea, resulting in a fire, an oil spill and at least one man missing and presumed dead.  It was more than a little foggy at the time.

The 59-year old master of the Portuguese vessel is now under arrest on suspicion of negligent manslaughter.

Both vessels are now undergoing a thorough safety review to determine what caused the collision, other than possible negligence.  The vessels are being detained by the U.K. Coast Guard until the matter is cleared up.
