It seems that there is maybe a lot more meat on the YOU
CAN'T LEGALLY DO THAT argument against the CA legislature contorting its
own rules and procedures to shove the redistricting package thru than I
knew. (Not a huge surprise there.)
AB
604, ACA 8 and SB 280 were passed without any sort of a senate rules
committee hearing whatsoever. None. It seems that Article 4 of the
California Constitution requires such. It also seems the senate engaged
in some proxy voting and internal polling in violation of their own
rules and in the face of their own counsel's opinion against it.
Steve
Hilton, one of the two major Republican candidates for Governor in two
years, has announced a major legal action against this whole mess coming
up next week. Since the CA Supreme Court has already expressed massive
disinterest in the whole thing I am unsure what his venue is going to
be, but perhaps if they are presented with chapter and verse the
Supremes may have to at least look at it on the record rather than just
saying "EH" and walking away.
Right now this is all a great big maybe. I am hopeful, but not expectant.
