There was an interesting back-and-forth in the CA state
capitol yesterday between a Democrat legislator and a reporter. The
reporter asked who had drawn up the maps being presented for
redistricting consideration. The legislator replied that she was not in
a position to say and that it was not important and that they were so
transparent you could hardly stand it how transparent they were. The
reporter pressed. The politician replied that, when she went to a
restaurant she did not need to meet the chef, she just needed to enjoy
the lovely meal.
Strangely a
lot of people think that is an unbearably arrogant response. That may
be one of those pieces of verbiage that hangs around and bites people on
the ass. It is already being used in news reports today. The tag line
is, "Who is the mystery chef?)
The
proponents of this plan are totally stonewalling giving out any
information on who drew the goddamn maps while at the same time telling
you how transparent it all is. Makes you wonder what they are hiding,
doesn't it?
EDITOR'S NOTE: Makes you wonder? Not really.
