Hillsboro-Deering High School
The Second Amendment Foundation (and possibly other 2A
groups) have filed a civil suit against the Hillsborough-Deering School
District (NH) and various of it's officers and employees in the matter
of Harrington v. Crawford.
Back
in April of this year Jack Harrington was a student in good standing at
the school and 18 years old. He has since graduated. He was (and
still is) the legal owner of a handgun and did, on occasion, carry it on
his person on in his vehicle. Both of these activities are completely
legal in New Hampshire. He asserted that he has NEVER carried it to
school or on school property and has never had the gun in his vehicle on
school property.
School
authorities on the day in question DEMANDED that he allow them to search
his vehicle for the gun that they knew he owned. He denied
permission. They contacted his parents. They also denied permission.
They questioned and browbeat him at some length (according to his
lawyers) after removing him from class during normal instruction
period. It appears that their desire to search his vehicle was based
SOLELY on their knowledge that he was a lawful gun owner.
The
school authorities searched the vehicle, a pickup truck, without his or
his parents permission. The did not find a gun because, as he had told
them, the gun was secured at his residence.
The
school district's response to the situation was that if Harrington was
to dispose of the weapon they would have no reason to search for it.
He is suing their ass. I hope he wins a ton of money and some idiots get fired over it.

Oh how times have changed. We used to go Dove Hunting after school. Our shotguns were visibly present in the back window rack. Nobody gave a shit. Of course we also got licks with a board if we truly fucked up.
