Remember
when Arnold Schwarzenegger gave Gray Davis the heave-ho as governor of
the formerly great state of California? A lot of the push for that move
came because of public outrage over a huge increase in motor vehicle
taxes, essentially a yearly tax on motor vehicles in CA. Fucking with
Californian's cars is politically dangerous at times. The first thing
Arnold did was fire the head of DMV when he told Arnold it would take
months to reprogram the computer to reduce the fees. The new guy got it
done in one month.
Two
large refineries in CA are getting ready to close next year. One of
them in April. The governor (who hates gasoline and the people who
consume it, unless they are good liberals) has been trying very hard to
get somebody interested in buying and operating the Valero refinery in
Benecia, scheduled to shut down in April.
CA
only produces about 25% of the refined petroleum products that it uses
within the state. There are no interstate pipelines coming into CA.
Product comes in by rail car and tanker. They are trying to build a
pipeline headed in from the east to bring in refined product. This is a
safe and efficient way of moving petroleum. Under IDEAL condition it
would take three years to build. Ideal conditions to not exist in CA.
If they did, the refineries would NOT be closing.
The
gasoline mavens are now predicting $10-$12 per gallon gas in CA in the
next year. The "old" prediction was $6-$8 per gallon. If that actually
happens the public outrage will be MASSIVE and you may actually see
some serious political changes in CA.
THROW THE BASTARDS OUT.
I am thinking the gas stations on Native American reservations may be getting a LOT more business soon.
