Phil Archer, a highly regarded veteran reporter with Houston’s KRPC TV Channel 2, gave a report Thursday on the aftermath of the accident in which a drunken James Omak drove for three miles unaware that he had a legless dead body beside him (Hic … What Body … Hic … Oshiffer?’ [6-30-11]).
At the end of his report, Archer noted that in addition to being charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Omak will be charged with ‘DRINKING WHILE INTOXICATED.’
Oops, this just goes to show that even the best among journalists will slip up once in a while. Obviously Archer meant to say that Omak will be charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Phil, if it’s any consolation, in his condition Omak must have been drinking while intoxicated before he started to drive his car. However, there is no such charge on the books.
