Marcella Jean Lee held a yard sale in Goldsboro, N.C., selling her neighbor a freezer which contained her mother’s body
Marcella Jean Lee, 56, held a yard sale in Goldsboro, N.C. last May. A neighbor bought her freezer for $30. The freezer came stocked not with frozen meat, but with the body of Arma Ann Roush, her 75-year-old mother.
Marcella lived with her mother who was last seen in August 2015.
The freezer was taped shut. When the neighbor picked it up, Marcella told her she was moving out of state and not to open the freezer until church members came by to collect the contents for a Sunday school project.
Several weeks later, after no church members showed up, the neighbor opened up the freezer and … oh shit! … she dropped the lid. When she took a second look she became hysterical, dashed out of her house and dialed 911.
“I have a serious problem. My neighbor sold me a deep freezer. I just opened it and there’s a body in there I think. I am freaking out.”
An autopsy revealed no signs of foul play. The Medical Examiner noted that Arma Ann’s body was intact and not dismembered in any way.
After searching for Marcella, the Goldsboro police found her in Carolina Beach where she was busted Thursday, charged with failure to report a death, a felony.
I’m guessing that Marcella figured it was a lot cheaper to store her mom’s body in the freezer than paying for funeral home expenses and a burial plot.

I'll bet there was some social security fraud involved.
I wonder if keeping a dead body in a freezer is even illegal in N.C?
