Anthony Silva is the mayor of the crime-ridden and gang-infested cesspool that is Stockton. Those of you who are regular readers will remember a couple of things I wrote recently about Stockton.
One was the recent murder of 3-year old Melanie Martinez, who was collateral damage. Another was the murder of Rashawn Harris. The mayor has just announced a war on crime, calling it "Operation Justice for Melanie." He mentioned both murders in a nine-step program he has proposed.
One of those steps would be to increase funding to hire some retired detectives to investigate homicides. Another is the hiring of some highly-skilled former military or police private security to patrol high-crime areas. A further notion is setting up a public access data base of known gang members. Another is to increase the number of security cameras in high-crime areas. All nice and useful, though maybe expensive. That being said...
One of the things the mayor neglected to mention is that Rashawn Harris was murdered with a gun belonging to the mayor. Mayor Silva was, shall we say, a tad tardy in reporting the theft. Like 27 days after the murder occurred. In addition he has so far declined to be interviewed by the D.A. regarding the exact circumstances of the theft. This was one of two separate guns stolen from the mayor in two separate thefts of two separate residences.
It should be noted that the mayor denies that he has refused to talk to the D. A. on the matter. Which doesn't necessarily mean that he has in fact talked with them.
So, who are you going to believe? Personally I am going with the D.A. The voters will I suppose have the final say in about 40 days. Silva is up for reelection next month.
