There was a La Raza Run at a local park in San Diego on Saturday. This was a motorcycle run that ended up in a festival at a public park near the Coronado Bridge. It is a regular thing and draws a lot of vendors, cycle freaks and general spectators on a regular basis.
As all this was going on a pickup truck plunged off an approach to the Coronado Bridge and landed on the crowd below, directly nailing a t-shirt vendor's set-up. Four people were killed outright and eight more were injured, at least one of them seriously.
The driver, a Navy serviceman assigned to Coronado, survived the crash though was substantially injured. He will be arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Not to make light of the situation (and I do detest drunk driving), but I wonder if the local politicians will call for an end to pickup truck violence? Probably not.

Ban pickup trucks? Half of Texas would be walking.
