HOUSTON -- Two men led police on a car chase into a field where the driver of the car ran and hid, but was quickly found by a police K-9.

Police received a report from a man who said he was following two men who had stolen his car around 12 a.m. Saturday near Eastex Freeway and Jensen Drive, police said.

The caller said around midnight he heard a person breaking into his car and starting it up, so he jumped in a relative's vehicle and followed the thieves driving his car until police could pull them over, according to officials.

Police said when they caught up to the stolen vehicle, they attempted to pull the car over. The two men refused to stop and took police for a 15-minute chase.

The two men traveled from the Eastex Freeway to the 610 north loop, when they pulled off the highway and into an open field next to a nightclub, according to authorities.

When the men attempted to pull through the field, they were met with a wire fence that stopped the car in its tracks, officials said.

The two men took off running, however the passenger of the car was immediately taken into custody, according to authorities.

Police said the driver of the car got away and was hiding in the field, so they brought out the search K-9.

The K-9 found the driver hiding in brush. The driver pulled a knife out to stab the K-9 and the K-9 went into attack mode and bit off part of the man’s ear, police said.

Authorities took the man to the hospital to treat the dog bite.

According to officials the men will be charged with felony evading arrest and car theft.
