Jason Stockley used to be a cop in St. Louis. Today (09-15) he was found NOT GUILTY of first degree murder in the death of Anthony Lamar Smith, 24. Smith was shot five times after a high-speed chase. A gun was found in the car which Stockley asserts Smith was reaching for when he fired. The D. A. asserts that Stockley planted the gun. The jury apparently believed Stockley.
A "demonstration" (riot) immediately ensured. Many business in the area closed down early, as did most schools. At least one person is under arrest for damage to a police vehicle.
There were, of course, many cries of "NO JUSTICE NO PEACE." Apparently a cop taken to trial does not count as justice if you don't like the verdict.
I wonder if the cop will get his job back?
EDITOR'S NOTE: Get his job back? Not in your lifetime. Not with him being heard saying during the chase that he was going to kill the guy and not with only Stockley's DNA found on the gun he claimed the victim was holding.

Yeah, He better be looking for a new vocation and location.
It is my understanding the actual reason the officer was fired was for having a personally owned weapon in his police vehicle without appropriate authorization. I should also point out that it is not IMPOSSIBLE for the suspect gun to have been in the bad guys car without getting any DNA trace from him on it. Just highly unlikely. Modern forensic science is very good. It isn't perfect. Clearly the judge (no jury) didn't buy it, at least not totally.
