There was an election in Kurdistan yesterday. The Kurds are generally acknowledged to be the larges group of recognized identity people on the planet who don't have their own country. To not great surprise they voted by about 93% of a 72% turnout to have their own country. For starters they want a chunk of Iraq. The Iraqui, Iranians and Turks are all very much AGAINST an independent Kurdish state. Even the U.S., which in theory is in favor of such things, is in opposition to it this time as it makes people too nervous. Syria isn't real wild about It either.
They do have a semi-autonomous region, with Irbil as their functional capital. The Iraqi prime minister is demanding the Kurds surrender control of the apriports in their district to the central government. The Kurds told him to go fuck himself.
